For United Way of Alberta, Canada, every committed donation is revenue the mission is counting on. Protiviti built a Salesforce Agentforce agent, powered by Claude, to catch the ones that quietly go unpaid.

The problem

Donation payments were being tracked through largely manual processes. Consistently classifying contributions, monitoring committed payments and quickly spotting donations that were late or potentially missed all depended on staff working through records by hand. That meant extra administrative effort, and a real risk of delayed follow-up and lost donation revenue.

What we built

A Donation Tracking Agent built on Salesforce Agentforce, with Claude as the underlying model. Because it’s an Agentforce agent, it works inside Salesforce rather than as a separate tool. The agent:

  • Reviews donation activity and automatically categorizes and tags each payment
  • Matches payments against expected commitments
  • Flags late or missing donations for follow-up

Why it’s better

Instead of relying on staff to manually review donation records and hunt for exceptions, the agent puts the team’s attention on the donations that actually require action. It shifts the process from manual monitoring to exception-based management, so follow-up can start sooner, with more consistency and visibility across every gift.

The business value

The value comes from taking manual reconciliation and monitoring off the team’s plate while protecting committed donation revenue. The agent automates a meaningful portion of the manual donation-monitoring workflow, and it’s built to:

  • Reduce the time spent manually reviewing and categorizing donation payments
  • Identify late or missing payments significantly faster
  • Improve the accuracy and consistency of donation classification
  • Give fundraising teams more time for donor engagement instead of administration
  • Reduce the risk of committed donations going uncollected because they weren’t identified in time

Time to value

This didn’t take a broad transformation. It’s a focused, lightweight Agentforce agent built on the donation and payment data the organization already had, so it could be built quickly. It shows how Agentforce and Claude together can improve a targeted nonprofit finance and fundraising process without a wholesale overhaul.

Every committed gift matters. The ones that don’t arrive shouldn’t be the ones nobody notices.
